RM of Sherwood’s story
The Rural Municipality of Sherwood No. 159 incorporated on December 11, 1911. It takes its name from the Sherwood School District No. 460, which was itself named for Sherwood, Ontario, where some of the area's early settlers had come from.
Some of the oldest buildings still standing reflect those homesteading years. The Normand Farm Residence, a two-storey fieldstone and brick house on Zehner Road, was built in 1905 as a homestead and is still lived in today. Boggy Creek School, northwest of Regina, was built of brick in 1923 as a one-room school, replacing an older school building on the site that dated to 1886. It served students until 1965, and the Regina Board of Education afterward used it for an outdoor program.
The RM's heavy clay soils make it one of the richest farming areas in the province, and the Wascana Creek and its valley wind through it. Today the municipality surrounds the city of Regina, and the Sherwood Industrial Park is home to a steel pipe manufacturer, farm implement makers and dealers, trucking companies and medical waste disposal facilities.
